Past incidents of school and workplace violence in Australia and America have invoked images on our psyche and our spirit. They also have something in common besides the obvious………they all had “pre-indicators”. Better put they all had signals BEFORE the violence erupted. One common and resonating comment that you hear repeatedly from the media after the carnage, after the sorrow, and investigations is that of the people who knew the perpetrator, saying “he was always talking about doing something like that” or “I’m not surprise it was him/her that did it”

Why then did it happen?

Two variables are normally “in play” for these types events to occur.

1) The individual tends to feel that they have been wronged, forgotten or are delusional and feel socially isolated or at the very least “no outlet to vent.”

2) Employers, employees, administrators and management not having the knowledge and the systems and procedures in place to help recognize and manage the pre-incident signals of potential incidents in it’s infancy.

At L.F.I. we believe the old adage, “destroy the monster while it is small!” Workplace violence is any threatening behaviour that happens in a work environment. This includes shaking fists, throwing objects, or other overt physical acts, as well as any verbal or written threats to cause harm to anyone or anything.

We do this by assisting very closely with your specific and unique situation. We have learned thru research, that all these tragic events have had what we call “pre-incident indicators” or “PIN’s” as coined by Gavin De Becker, one of the worlds premiere threat assessors.

Many of these indicators are known to those close to the potential aggressor such as their co-workers, friends, family and the like. However with out the knowledge to recognize it, measure it, and manage it we tend to only recognize it when it has escalated to the point of violence. We assist organizations in not only recognizing and measuring the various levels of these signs but also how to implement a program to assist in managing it.
