Domestic abuse by a spouse or intimate partner knows no age or ethnic boundaries.
Domestic abuse can occur during a relationship or after a relationship has ended. A common cycle of domestic abuse is that the perpetrator alternates between violent abusive behaviour and apologetic behaviour with apparently heartfelt promises to change. The abuser may even be very pleasant most of the time. Therein lays the perpetual trap or cycle of the abused partner and why many people are unable to leave the abusive relationship.
The abused many times find themselves saying the following:
· "Well they aren’t always like that!”
· "They are only mean when they are drunk!”
· "I deserved it”
However the psychological and physical dangers of staying in an abusive relationship to the abused and or their children are severe.
This statement may sound simplistic however the LACK OF RECOGNITION OR DENIAL and the living in FEAR are the two major factors why a person stays with an abuser! Most people who have never lived in a state of DENIAL or FEAR don’t understand why the abused don’t take action and “just leave”, especially when there are children involved.
Freedom for the abused is first accomplished by their acknowledgement that they are in an abusive relationship; for without the victim acknowledging that there is a problem they will have little chance of having the life they deserve filled with JOY, LOVE, LAUGHTER, and SAFETY for themselves or their children.

Our experience in the science of predicting violent behaviour and ability to correctly identify key escalation points in domestic violence and stalking cases can make the difference in whether or not there is a safe outcome. If improperly handled these are the very types of situations that often go awry, sometimes with tragic outcomes.
